Notable People

Professor Edwin Coleman:

Professor Coleman is a Professor Emeritus in the English Department at the University of Oregon.  His is an jazz musician and has had the opportunity to play with a number of other well known musicians, including the Smothers’ Bros. and Peter, Paul, and Mary.  During his time at the UO he has published a great deal and been on a number of committees and panels examining discrimination and racism as they are a part of University policy.

Professor Laurence Carter:

Professor Carter is a Professor Emeritus in the Sociology Department at the University of Oregon.  Professor Carter is a demographer who has made major methodological breakthroughs in the study of mortality rates, in particular, the "Lee-Carter Method." He has consulted for the state of Oregon retirement system.

Professor David Frank:

David Frank is professor of rhetoric and a resident faculty member in the Robert D. Clark Honors College. His research features the study of rhetoric and argumentation as expressions of reason offering alternatives to violence in human conflict.

Ken Metzler:

Ken Metzler is a retired professor from the University of Oregon who was teaching on campus in the Journalism school during the civil rights era.  During the 1970s he published a book about the community during that time which was extremely useful to our research.
